Austin native and NYC-based Sergio Guadarrama presented his fall/winter 2012 collection today in one of Andaz 5th Avenue‘s studios (next door to Ermenegildo Zegna‘s show in Studio 2). His line, Celestino by Sergio Guadarrama, incorporates solid construction and vintage glam. The pieces were stunning and the fabrics aesthetically pleasing, and with accessories like the separate collar neck piece, I was in love. His ability to impeccably tailor and form designs to the silhouette of a woman’s body left me wanting more.
The designer has become well-known for his evening gowns and cocktail dresses since the launch of Celestino in 2006 (while he was still a student at NYC’s Fashion Institute of Technology). He’s received “Best in Class – Execution” at the 2008 Supima Design Competition and has since served on the board of critics at FIT’s Special Occasion program in 2010. (Editor’s Note: I didn’t know any of this before I saw the presentation, but I’m impressed…. And the designer is adorable and very sweet.)
